Russian Embassy School Grade 7 Winter Exams


Task 1. Give a talk on Russia.


Remember to speak about:

  • its geographical position;

  • its political system;

  • holidays and traditions you like most of all;

  • famous people.

You have to talk for about 3 minutes. The examiner will listen until you have finished. Then s/he will ask you some questions.


Task 2. Give a talk on Moscow.


Remember to say:

  • when and by whom it was founded;

  • what places of the city are worth visiting, why;

  • what things you like/ dislike about the city;

  • what the citizens can be proud of.

You have to talk for about 3 minutes. The examiner will listen until you have finished. Then s/he will ask you some questions.


Task 3. Give a talk on a famous Russian person.


Remember to speak about:

  • his/ her childhood and youth;

  • his/ her professional career;

  • his/ her great achievements;

  • what makes you admire him/ her.

You have to talk for about 3 minutes. The examiner will listen until you have finished. Then s/he will ask you some questions.


Task 4. Give a talk on English as a global language.


Remember to say:

  • in what countries English is spoken as a mother tongue;

  • from what languages English borrowed a lot of words;

  • why English can be called the language of business and sports;

  • if it is good to have an international language, why.

You have to talk for about 3 minutes. The examiner will listen until you have finished. Then s/he will ask you some questions.


Task 5. Give a talk on the history of English language.


Remember to say;

  • who invaded British Isles and how they influenced the language of the people living there;

  • about the main periods of language development;

  • what written sources of each period are available how they differ from the modern language;

  • what influenced the development of modern language.


You have to talk for about 3 minutes. The examiner will listen until you have finished. Then s/he will ask you some questions.


Task 6. Give a talk on the way you are taught English.


Remember to say:

  • what you feel about learning grammar;

  • why it is important to keep yourself up-to-date with idioms;

  • why reading and listening are very helpful;

  • what you find most interesting about learning English.

You have to talk for about 3 minutes. The examiner will listen until you have finished. Then s/he will ask you some questions.


Task 7. Give a talk on your family.


Remember to say:

  • how many people there are in your family;

  • about parent –child relationship in your family;

  • what your family’s favourite pastimes are;

  • if your family is an ideal one, why.

You have to talk for about 3 minutes. The examiner will listen until you have finished. Then s/he will ask you some questions.


Task 8. Give a talk on English festivals and traditions.


Remember to speak about:

  • why people celebrate the festivals;

  • traditions connected with the celebrations;

  • any Russian traditions of the kind;

  • why you like/dislike the festivals.

You have to talk for about 3 minutes. The examiner will listen until you have finished. Then s/he will ask you some questions.


Task 9. Give a talk on one of the English writers.


Remember to speak about:

  • his/ her green years;

  • when s/he began writing books;

  • his/ her books;

  • his/ her secret of success.

You have to talk for about 3 minutes. The examiner will listen until you have finished. Then s/he will ask you some questions.
