SAMPLE DIALOGUE


STUDENT CARD 1


You and a classmate have been asked to organize a performance to be given by your class to the rest of the school. You and your classmate are discussing what kind of performance to organize. The performance could be:

• a well-known play

• a show written by members of the class

• a series of musical performances

• a mixture of acting, music and dancing connected by a theme

You begin the conversation. The examiner will play the part of your friend.


Remember to:

• discuss all the options

• be polite when agreeing / disagreeing with your friend

• take an active part in the conversation:

- explain the situation - find out about your friend's attitudes and take

- come up with ideas them into account

- give good reasons - invite your friend to come up with suggestions

• come to an agreement

Well-known play

- Not many people like acting out .

- It will probably last too long.

- We would have to organize costumes, scenery, etc.

- There are a few people in the class who are very good at acting.

- It would be something serious that would show we are good students.

- Nobody has performed a play at school for some time.

- It might not be any good.

- Who's going to decide which people should write it?

- There would be arguments among the people involved.

- There are some talented writers in the class.

- People would be impressed that we had written our own play.

- It would be a great achievement for the class.

^ Series of musical performances

- A lot of class members can't play anything or sing.

- We'd have to organize a lot of rehearsals.

- It might get boring for the audience.

- We could include lots of different kinds of music.

- We have some very good musicians and singers in the class.

- We could form a rock band especially for the performance.

^ Mixture of acting, music and dancing connected with a theme

- It might be hard to think of a good theme.

- It might be very complicated to organize.

- People would have to have a large number of ideas.

- People could work together in small groups.

- It would be very entertaining for the audience.

- Everyone could do something that they're good at.

STUDENT CARD 5


You and your friend are talking about the way you are taught English. Discuss the following options and decide what ways of learning the language are the most helpful.

• English grammar

• English vocabulary

• English pronunciation

• ways of learning English

Your classmate has a birthday soon so you and your friend agreed to present him with a book. Discuss what type of book you would like to choose. Take the following options into consideration:

• a historical novel

• a detective story

• a fairy tale

• an adventure novel


STUDENT CARD 7


Your school offers a great variety of different clubs and courses. You and your friend would like to attend on of them. Decide what activity you would like to choose. Discuss the following options:

• a sport club

• an English course

• an Arts club

• a drama club


STUDENT CARD 8


You and your friend have been asked to choose a film to see and discuss in class. Decide what kind of film you would like to present to your classmates. Agree upon one of the options:

• a comedy

• a documentary

• a musical

• a feature film
