WELL-KNOWN, FAMOUS, DISTINGUISHED or NOTORIOUS

I. 1. I have made my name … throughout Europe.

2. It’s a small town and doctor Brown is a … man here.

3. This murder is … for his terrible murders.

4. Isaac Newton was a … scientist who discovered the law of gravitation.

5. Do you know who is the most … living writer of our days?

6. The doctor and the postman are usually the most … men in the village.

7. This maniac is one of the most … criminal in the world.

8. Einstein was a … physicist.

9. Fascists were … for their atrocities.

10. This artist is … for his portraits.

II. Robert Brown was a good painter. He was (известен) in his town but he wanted to become (известным) in his country. In fact he was not very particular about the ways of becoming (знаменитым). He was ready to do anything, even some dirty things. More than once he let people down, betrayed them and deceived them in order to become (знаменитым). And what? He never became (известен) for his paintings but he became (известен) for his dishonest behaviour.
