Turov is a city in Zhitkovichi district, Gomel region, Belarus.

The city is located on the River Pripyat, 25 km north-west of Zhitkovichi, 258 km away from Gomel.

According to the legend in ancient times there were 75 churches in this small Belarusian city, that’s why the city was called the second Jerusalem.

The city of Turov is the birthplace of the well-known great philosopher and educator of ancient times Kiril of Turov. There is a monument to Kiril of Turov in Turov and in Gomel. Kiril of Turov (about 1113 - 1182) was a priest and a bishop, a writer and a preacher, the author of "Words", teachings, prayers, and canons. His contemporaries called him "the Russian eloquent speaker." His main interest was in learning the true meaning of the texts of the great book “the Holy Scripture”.

Turov is one of the oldest centres of written language and chronicles in contemporary Belarus. It is equally important for the Belarusian land in the south, as Polotsk in the north.

In 1995 and in 2004 the national Day of Belarusian Written Language was held in Turov.
